J. Scott Hacker graduated with a B.B.A. with a double major in Finance and Accounting at University of Texas at Austin. He later completed a M.A. in Land Economics and Real Estate from Texas A&M University and a M.B.A, with a concentration in Finance from Texas Tech University. He attended the University of Texas School of Law, graduating with Honors.

After graduating law school in 2000, he served as a law clerk for one year to the Honorable George P. Kazen, then-Chief Judge of the Southern District of Texas. Afterward, he worked as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney in Bexar County, Texas and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Texas. After serving as a federal prosecutor, Mr. Hacker practiced law in Los Angeles, California at Bird, Marella, Wolpert, Boxer, Nessim, Drooks & Lincenberg, where he practiced white-collar criminal defense and represented clients who were being investigated by United States Security Exchange Commission (SEC).

Mr. Hacker is admitted to practice in the States of Texas and California, United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas and Central District of California, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Bar Association for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

After finishing graduate school, but prior to entering law school, Mr. Hacker served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Uruguay, South America for two years.
